I'm OK: Daily Check-in privacy

This policy clearly explains how your data is handled, what information is shared, and how your privacy is protected when using the app.

Where data is stored

The app uses Apple's iCloud service to synchronize your information. Daily statuses, chat messages, and photos you choose to share are stored privately in your iCloud account and shared only with contacts you invite and who accept your invitation.

At mirlo apps, we do not operate our own servers to receive or store your data: all synchronization is handled directly through Apple's infrastructure associated with the participants' iCloud accounts.

The app contains no third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking frameworks. Your data remains on your device and in your personal iCloud account.

What data is used and shared

DataWhat it includesWhere it is stored
Daily statusDate and time, check-in status, optional message, display name, read receipts, safety alert threshold, and optional photo. In your private iCloud database and, when shared, in the shared database with accepted participants.
ChatMessage text, sender ID and display name, date, and reference to the corresponding status. In the iCloud database shared with participants of that status.
PhotoCompressed image optionally attached during your daily check-in.In your iCloud account when shared with the status, and locally on device for history and widgets.

Your preferences, local history, pending invitations, and cached copies are kept locally on your device. The app never uploads or shares your entire address book.

One-time location

Location permission is requested only if you choose to use the “I'm Here” message option to share where you are. It is not requested when launching the app or during onboarding, and your location is never tracked continuously in the background.

When you check in with “I'm Here”, the app looks up your position once to resolve an approximate locality or coordinates.

With this data, the app generates an Apple Maps link (https://maps.apple.com/...) so your contacts can view the location on a map. The final message includes your selected text, locality, and that link.

In an iCloud-shared check-in, this message is synchronized with your authorized contacts. If you choose to share manually via SMS or WhatsApp, the system opens the selected app so you can review and send the message yourself.

System permissions

  • Contacts: allows you to select a contact with their phone number or email to prepare an invitation. The app never uploads your contacts to any server.
  • Camera: allows you to capture a photo in the moment to optionally attach it to your daily check-in. The app does not access your general photo library.
  • Location While Using the App: used on a one-time basis only if you choose the “I'm Here” status to include your approximate locality.
  • Notifications: needed to remind you to check in at your chosen time and to alert you when your contacts check in, view your status, or send a message.
  • iCloud: enables secure sync and sharing of your statuses, photos, and chat with the contacts you choose.
  • Widgets and Live Activities: allow you to view and confirm your status directly from the Home Screen or Lock Screen.

Alerts and service limits

Visible alerts are created directly on the device that receives or monitors the status. The app operates no server infrastructure that automatically sends SMS or WhatsApp messages when a threshold passes.

If the confirming person's phone is off, no automatic SMS or WhatsApp is sent for that reason. If the contact's device already synchronized the latest status, it may have a local alert scheduled; delivery depends on that device, iOS, network connectivity, and permissions.

Without an internet connection, check-ins cannot synchronize with your contacts via iCloud until connectivity is restored. Furthermore, if notifications are disabled in device settings, local alerts will not appear.

Control over your data

You can delete your statuses, photos, or messages at any time from within the app. You can also stop sharing with any contact whenever you decide by removing the connection. Because data is stored in your personal iCloud account, you retain control over your information under Apple's terms and privacy policy.
