Privacy in Poetry Companion
Your creative writings belong entirely to you. Here is an open explanation of how data is handled.
Poem Storage
Your poems, books, edits, and drafts are stored locally on your device by default. If you have iCloud sync enabled in your Apple account, data syncs exclusively through your private database on Apple's servers.
Mirlo Apps operates no proprietary storage servers and never has access to the texts you write.
AI Services: What Leaves Your Device, When, and How to Avoid It
What text is sent: Only the specific theme, concept, or verse snippet that you explicitly type into the generation prompt ("Theme, emotion, or concept..."), along with your chosen poetic parameters (tone, form, or meter). Your saved poems library, books, and private notes are never sent or shared.
When it is sent: Only at the exact moment you tap the button to generate verses or request style suggestions. While typing by hand, reading, editing, or inspecting syllable meter, no text is sent to any AI service.
Where it is processed: Cloud generation is handled via the Google Gemini API to return your requested poem proposal. Data is processed transiently and is never used to train third-party models or for advertising.
- Fully manual use: You can use Poetry Companion 100% locally as a notebook, distraction-free editor, real-time meter analyzer, and book manager without ever tapping verse generation.
- On-device generation: In the app settings (available for Pro users on compatible devices), you can turn off Google Cloud AI and enable Apple Foundation Model so that suggestions run entirely in on-device memory without transmitting any text over the network.
Rhymes & Synonyms Lookups
When looking up rhymes or synonyms for a specific word, the app queries standard reference linguistic resources (such as Datamuse for English) using only the queried word.
The rest of your poem, your identity, and your location are never transmitted in these queries.
Microphone & Voice Recordings
If you choose to use speech dictation or record yourself reciting a poem to evaluate its musicality, the app requests microphone permission:
- Dictation: processed via Apple's native speech recognition framework on your device.
- Recitation audio: recorded audio files stay on your device and private iCloud. Mirlo Apps never listens to or collects your recordings.
Camera & Photo Library
The document scan feature allows you to photograph handwritten or printed poems to extract text. Optical character recognition (OCR) runs locally on your iPhone or iPad. Captured images and selected photos are never uploaded to external servers.
No Ads, No Tracking
Poetry Companion contains zero advertising SDKs, cross-app commercial tracking tools, or invasive analytics. We never construct user profiles or sell personal information under any circumstance.
Data Control & Deletion
You can edit, archive, or delete any poem, draft, or audio recording at any time directly in the app. Deleting the app along with its iCloud data completely and irreversibly removes your stored files.
